Recalled: GM to Fix 190,000-Plus Midsize Trucks with Missing LATCH Point

General Motors is ready to recall more than 190,000 Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Isuzu i-Series midsize pickup trucks due to a missing LATCH point critical to securing a child seat.

2004-2011 Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, 2007-2008 Isuzu i280, i370

The Problem: Federal law mandates passenger seating positions to have accessible LATCH points to securely fasten a child seat. The 2004-2011 Colorado, Canyon, and certain 2007-2008 Isuzu i-Series pickup trucks with bench front seats don't have an accessible top LATCH tether point on the bench's center seat.

The Fix: Dealers will make the center seat's top LATCH anchor point accessible, although GM recommends all child seats to be installed in the right passenger seat if necessary.

Number of vehicles potentially affected: 192,676

First Look: 2009 Scion iQ Concept

Will Scion Sell Toyota's Tiny iQ here? That's up to the youth of America to decide.

Toyota already sells the iQ, a tiny urban runabout, in Europe and Japan, but this is the first time the company has acknowledged a desire to sell the car here in America. The Scion iQ concept that debuted at the 2009 New York Auto Show wears high-zoot bodywork from Five Axis, a car customizer from Huntington Beach, California, but if an iQ comes to your Scion dealership, it likely won't look quite as crazy as this.

GM recalling pickups for missing child seat tether

General Motors is recalling nearly 200,000 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon and Isuzu i280 and i370 pickups. The vehicles are apparently equipped with a top child restraint tether anchor that's not accessible as required by federal law in the center seating position. This means parents could fail to secure their children properly, potentially causing injury in the event of a collision. GM says that it discourages using a child safety seat in the center due to the proximity of the airbags. The recall covers 2004-2011 Canyon and Colorado models and 2007-2008 Isuzu trucks.

GM says that its dealerships will service the vehicles under the recall free of charge.

At this point, the company is unaware of any injuries caused by the design defect. Click past the jump for the full press release.

The new version of Lincoln's popular Navigator is as big and gaudy as ever before. Check it out in our New Cars section.

The 2007 Lincoln Navigator joins the all-new Lincoln MKX crossover and the renamed MKZ sedan (known for 2006 as the Zephyr), but it eschews the alphanumeric and keeps its real name. A fussy set of grilles clumsily recalls Continentals and Marks of the 1960s, but the look doesn't work here. Even if you don't find the effect elegant, you certainly can't miss it, and that might be more important anyhow. Driving home the "more is more" theme are tons of chrome, a "powerdome" hood, and optional twenty-inch wheels. We'd be remiss if we didn't note that the new Escalade is available with 22-inchers.

Volvo XC60 faces small recall over side airbags

Volvo is recalling select XC60 models for an airbag assembly issue that could result in the safety device failing to deploy or deploy improperly. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defective air bag "may not properly protect the occupant, increasing the risk of injuries." All 58 vehicles (yes, just 58 vehicles) covered by the recall will need to head to the nearest Volvo dealer for a free inspection of the left and right curtain air bag assemblies.

In other Volvo-related recall news, the Swedish automaker is supporting Garmin's recall of model 760 and 765 navigation systems. The nav systems, which are installed by dealers on several Volvo products, are being recalled due to a potential defect that may cause some battery types to overheat. Keep in mind that the Garmin devices being recalled are not in any way linked to Volvo's factory installed Road Traffic Information system. Hit the jump to read over the NHTSA press release.

Supercar Price War? McLaren Prices MP4-12C at £168,500 in Britain

Over the last few months, McLaren has been slowly revealing details about its new MP4-12C and its global dealership network to distribute the car. We've yet to learn just how much the sweet sports coupe will sticker for here in the U.S., but the automaker did reveal European pricing will start at roughly £168,500 ($268,000).

We doubt that the European pricing will directly correlate to the MP4-12C's North American price tag, but it is still somewhat revealing in one way: McLaren's looking to pick a pricing war with Ferrari. The MP4-12C's spec-sheet shows that the car offers performance metrics similar to those produced by the Ferrari 458 Italia, but the pricing news indicates the Mighty Mac will undercut U.K pricing of the Italia by roughly $1600.

To most supercar buyers, $1600 is chump change, and we doubt the MP4-12C's price point will trigger other competitors to suddenly price their vehicles as if it were Black Friday. Still, it does show just how serious McLaren is about giving the folks in Maranello a good run for the money in a segment they've long dominated.

 "When we embarked on this challenge to design, develop, build, sell, and service the world's most exciting and high-quality high-performance sports cars -- from a brand new factory at our Formula 1 headquarters -- we knew expectations would be high," Antony Sheriff, managing director of McLaren Automotive, said in a prepared release. "To deliver a true McLaren sports car, and, frankly, a reason to exist amongst great competition, it was clear we needed a unique concept that offered tangible advantages."

Those aforementioned advantages, other than price, largely lie with the MP4-12C's construction, along with its all-new V-8 engine. Ferrari has avoided carbon fiber monocoque construction for the majority of its volume road cars, saving such a feature only for its range-topping, limited-edition models. Here, it's a standard hallmark of all MP4-12Cs. Additionally, the 12C's twin-turbocharged, direct 3.8-liter V-8 not only manages to produce 600 horsepower -- 38 ponies more than the 458 -- but it also undercuts the Ferrari's CO2 emission levels.

European customers -- who are often taxed based upon emissions output -- may care dearly about that last point, but we think shoppers in North America will be more concerned with price. If the MP4-12C drives anywhere as good as the 458 and undercuts the Ferrari's price tag even after being shipped across the Atlantic, McLaren may have a bright future here in the U.S.

SI Drive will also be fitted to all turbo Legacy GTs and Outback XTs.
